/ Pukak@nunanet.com
Aseena Allurut works for the Government of Nunavut as
a Municipal Program Officer, and is presently on secondment
to the Nunavut Municipal Training Organization. She
was employed in the Office of the Minister of Health
as an Executive Secretary/Assistant from 1999 until
2003.
Before moving to Iqaluit in 1998, she lived and worked
in Arctic Bay on northern Baffin Island. She had worked
as a Government/Municipal Liaison Officer for five
years. Previously to that, she was living and working
in Nanisivik from 1991 to 1993. She had also lived
in Timmins, Ontario for five years, where she upgraded
her academics and completed her Grade 12 equivalency.
Her family has been working and living in Nanisivik
from 1979 to 1995. Aseena went to school in Nanisivik
from 1979 to 1982, but had to quit school because
there was no high school in the community where she
was and her parents did not want her to leave to attend
high school in Iqaluit (known then as Frobisher Bay).
She's held a variety of jobs since she was 14 years
old.
Aseena's children and step-children are; Clark 16
(living with his father in Timmins, Ontario), Myles
13, Richard 12, Joshua 11 (step-son) and Natasha 13
(step-daughter, living with her mother in Pangnirtung,
NU). Her husband, John Thomas, has just completed
a 2 year Information Technology Diploma program at
Arctic College and works in the same department in
the Government of Nunavut.
