Hagar was born on the land in the late 1950's when some
Inuit families were still living off the land. She is
the seventh child of 12 children. She attended a residential
school at age eight, spent summers at home with family
and later on attended college and University in Saskatchewan.
She returned home in the 1980's, lived in Resolute Bay
and then Pond Inlet and now lives in Iqaluit with husband,
David and four children and family dog name Duke.
Work history and experience—She worked under
Nunavut Housing Corporation for nine years as housing
manager in Pond Inlet and as program officer. She
moved to Iqaluit and worked for Nunavut Tunngavik
Inc. as Executive Director for Administration from
1998 to 2000.
Hagar has moved on to work for Indian and Northern
Affairs in July of 2000 up to now, and acts as Director
of Intergovernmental Affairs and Inuit Relations,
in the Nunavut Regional Office based in Iqaluit.
Hagar enjoys spending time with family and friend,
going on the land camping and fishing on weekends.
She enjoys designing and sewing traditional Inuit
clothing made either from caribou or seal skins. She
likes to walk in the early morning hours with Duke;
giving her the time to think and plan her busy day
ahead—in solitude.
