Activities
Riverdeep Tangible Math: http://www.riverdeep.net/math/tangible_math/tm_activity_pages/stats/catn.activityi_751.jhtml#top
- Features a lesson plan as well as handouts on “the average student”.
These handouts are very clear and attractive, and seem to be interactive.
They focus on choosing relevant measures of central tendency. So far, it seems
relatively easy to adapt for grade 4.
The Average Kid (Education World): http://www.education-world.com/a_lesson/00-2/lp2057.shtml
- Students determine the traits they have in common with other students
in the class and create visual profiles of the "average" boy and the "average"
girl.
Data and Probability in Upper Elementary School: http://socrates.acadiau.ca/courses/educ/reid/Elem-math-virtual-Workshops/UpElemStats/DataandProbability.htm
- Five activities, resources, background information, and APEF crriculum
outcomes.
DATA COLLECTION AND PROBABILITY: A resource for elementary teachers:
http://socrates.acadiau.ca/courses/educ/reid/Elem-math-virtual-Workshops/PROBABILITY/introduction.html
- This website is designed to assist elementary teachers in teaching Data
Collection and Probability to children. There are many practical activities
provided here that can be directly implemented into elementary classrooms.
The activities are organized into different grade levels, from Grade Primary
to Grade Five. Because many of the practices within data collection
and probability are the same at all levels, many of these activities are
easily adaptable to other grades.
