Plane symmetry p4
p4 consists of a half turn and a quarter turn.
Escher used this symmetry Symmetry Watercolor 118, 1963, and Symmetry Watercolor 119, 1969. In the case of Symmetry Watercolor 118, the colors change the symmetry pattern to p2.
Escher also made sketches of tile patterns at the
Alhambra
in Spain with this symmetry.
