Project Ideas
We supplied students with some ideas including books and supplies to use for their project however we told them that the sky was the limit. We made sure that they realized that they should use their imagination and create a project that they had a lot of interest in. If they still had a hard time deciding on a project then we tried to lead them in a certain direction - which we thought they would enjoy.
Some of the projects that students have come up with are:
1. Math Games - Some games were spin offs of games already created, just with a math twist; while others were ones completely thought up of on their own. (Photos, Resources)
2. Puzzles - Some projects were created with a puzzle idea in mind, such as using tangrams or pentominos and the famous Tower of Hanoi. (Photos, Resources)
3. Math Art - Students really seemed to enjoy created art using math. Some of the ideas were done with line designs, mathematical quilts This was a really popular hit and would be something easy to do in a classroom throughout a term (not necessarily as a project, but fun math for the students). 4. Platonic Solids - A group of students worked with a volunteer who came into the school to help them create the Platonic Solids. The students created the designs to form these solids and looked into their importance and how they relate to the Cosmos.(Photos, Resources)
5. History and Math - students could either look into the history of a particular mathematical topic or a certain mathematician.(Photos, Resources)
