Scanning Images for Web Pages

  1. Log on to the computer in the SRMK Computer Room (GYM Rm 385G).
  2. At the prompt "Enter your login name:" type axe/.username.xx.student.acadia

     

  3. To start Windows:

    -at the DOS prompt, type C: <enter>

    -at C:\NW type cd.. <enter>

    -at C:\ type cd windows <enter>

    -at C:\windows, type win <enter>

     

  1. To start the HP Deskscan Program:
  2. Turn on the scanner.

    Double-click the HP Deskscan II icon.

     

  3. Lift the scanner "lid" and centre your photograph at the top, middle of the glass.

  5. Click the Preview box. Your picture will load and appear on the screen.

  7. Select the area of the picture that you want in the image by moving the cursor into the picture, then holding down the left mouse button and creating a box around the desired picture area.

  9. Click the Zoom box.

  11. Make changes to colour and sharpness by clicking on the [ button in the centre. Be aware that the computer monitor is VGA, so the image will not look as good as on a laptop display, or a desktop SVGA monitor.

  13. Click Final button. Select a destination for the picture. Save it to your disk (A:\). Exit the HP Deskscan application.

  15. On your own computer, log on to the network, go to network applications and start Corel
    PhotoPaint 7.

  17. Open your picture file. Choose Image, then Convert to. Click on 265 colours. In the dialog box that opens, choose optimize under Palette type and error diffusion under Dither type.

  19. Under File, select Save as …Make sure the Save as type: box says CompuServe Bitmap. Click Save. When the Transparent Colour dialog box opens, click OK. Then click OK again.

You now have a file on disk which can be put into your web page. Make sure your name is on the back of your photograph and put it in the envelope on my office door.
