Music 1143 - Music Theory 2
Winter 2007 Music 1143 will build on the music theory fundamentals established in Music 1133. We will begin to explore elements of chromaticism as well as musical form and structural analysis. Some of the things we will discuss will include:

• New uses for Diminished 7th Chords
• Modal “borrowing”
• Modulation to closely related keys
• Secondary Functions
• Two and three-part forms
• Binary vs. Ternary principle
• Compound structures
• Harmonic Design

We will continue to meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during Slot 05 (12:30-1:20). Mondays and Fridays will be lecture-based classes in room 226, while the Wednesday class will be a tutorial/group work session in room 234.
