REFERENCE MATERIALS:
In addition to the required materials, you will need
several reference materials, including:
1) Website resources.
2) A dictionary of Canadian politics, such as John McMenemy's book, The
Language of Canadian Politics (Waterloo, ON: Wilfred Laurier University
Press, 1995).
3) A writing style guide.
COMPUTER-RELATED RESOURCES:
This class is part of the Acadia Advantage Program
and therefore requires a laptop computer. You will be using your computer
to:
1) access additional information resources from the Internet.
2) prepare and present lateral maps.
3) prepare and present essays.
4) communicate with each other, with students in the comparative and peace
studies classes, with students from other universities, and with the
professors and teaching assistants.
5) aid in class computer simulations when they are available and instructive.
RESERVE READINGS IN THE LIBRARY:
The required readings are drawn from the texts as well as useful documents and articles which have been placed on reserve in the library. Doing the required readings prior to class is essential. While subjects addressed in the readings will be discussed during the lectures, we will typically go beyond the readings, bringing alternative perspectives and additional issues to your attention. Your comprehension of the lectures is dependent on your preparedness.
GUEST SPEAKERS & FILMS:
Videos and films will be shown on appropiate topics.
Good note-taking is highly recommended.
Guest speakers will be invited to address the class when possible.
