The following are common beliefs about the benefits of work experience for youth:
a) The money can be used to pay for future education.
b) The experience will help devlop a work ethic.
c) Working will instill respect for the economy.
d) Having been in the 'real world' working youth will become more motivated students.

Psychological science has evidence that suggests:
a) Earnings are spent on luxury items.
b) Workers become more cynical and less respectful of work.
c) Employment has harmful effects on education.
d) Working also seems to promote some delinquent behaviour.
