Assignment 3 – SPSS Assignment

Due: Mar. 21 (A2 & B2) & Mar. 23 (C2)

 

For this assignment you will be required to conduct a series of analyses related to regression.  You will use the data file regression.sav.  It is posted on ACME.  Make sure to submit all of your SPSS printouts, in addition to your written work.

 

Part A

 

1)      Generate a correlation matrix for all of the variables in the data file.  Therefore, the matrix should include zhelp, severity, sympathy, anger, efficacy and empatend.

 

Part B

 

2)      Conduct a simple regression between zhelp and sympathy.  Write out (by hand) the corresponding regression equation and report the proportion of variance explained.

 

3)      If you had a score of 3 on sympathy, what would be the predicted zhelp score?  Show your calculations.

 

4)      Use a scatterplot to present zhelp and sympathy. 

 

5)      Conduct a simple regression between zhelp and empatend.  Write out (by hand) the corresponding regression equation and report the proportion of variance explained.

 

6)      If you had a score of 15 on empatend, what would be the predicted zhelp score?  Show your calculations.

 

7)      Conduct a simple regression between zhelp and efficacy. Write out (by hand) the corresponding regression equation and report the proportion of variance explained.

 

8)      If you had a score of 3.6 on efficacy, what would be the predicted zhelp score?  Show your calculations.

 

 

Part C

 

9)      Conduct a multiple regression including all 5 of the variables using the Enter method.  Report the proportion of variance explained.

 

10)  Conduct a multiple regression for the variables using the Stepwise method.  Report the proportion of variance explained for each step in the regression.
