The goal of this exercise is to have fun, while getting some first hand experience with the misinformation and "accumulated debris of liitle value" (garbage) available on the web, and learning how to find more reliable information on the web. There are three somewhat distinct components to this assignment.
First, choose a topic of some relevance to psychology (very broadly defined) and find a web page that presents the most absurd information or "scientific based" claim you can find on the WWW. The claim, or information, must be presented on the web page(s) you find it as if it were "scientifically proven" or at least supported (or that has to be strongly implied). (Here is one of Peter McLeod's favorite examples.)
Second: you are to find a web site (or related sites) that present(s) contrary scientific arguments against the claims made in the pages you found in part one.
Third: you are to prepare a web page (.html file) that provides:
You will also have to write comments on your interpretation of the conflicting information the two pages or sets of pages present. Which side you believe in and why.
Your assignment
is to be submitted in .HTM format to be posted on the course page (with
credit). Please hand in a hard copy of your page as well. This
assignment to be completed in partners.
