Shanthi Johnson, Ph.D., P.Dt., is an Associate Professor at the School of Nutrition and Dietetics
at Acadia University in Nova Scotia and an adjunct professor at the Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging, School of
Kinesiology, University of Western Ontario in Canada. She has also been a professional dietitian in Canada. Her research
interest involves health promotion among older adults with a multidisciplinary perspective including nutritional, physical,
and psychosocial components. The specific aging research themes have included: 1) the determinants of independence and
healthy aging and 2) the impact of exercise and nutrition interventions on functional capacity, falls prevention and osteoporosis
across the continuum of elderly.
While aging and health has been the main focus of her research, she has espoused a life course perspective and worked with several age groups and she has been involved in research in the areas of population health, health services research, and international health. In these projects, she has been collaborating with researchers in Canada, US, Australia and India. Dr. Johnson is a member of several boards and is a recipient of CIHR New Investigator award. |
