Word - Styles
Word lets you create a variety of
different types of text documents. When working with longer
documents (over five pages) you should use styles for all text
formatting and implement sections properly for things like page
numbers and columns.
Formatting Text
In Word you can use the formatting
toolbar to modify the text and alter font, size, bold, alignment
etc.. Note this tool bar should only be used for very short
documents.

Applying Styles
Styles should be used to set the
formatting of text in longer documents (greater than a few pages).
They allow you to set font type, size, margins, tabs, color etc...

Creating Styles
Styles should be created for each
type of text you want to put in your document. This way
when you want to change how the text is formatted you simply
change the definition of the style and all text defined with
that style is changed throughout your document.

Table of Contents
A table of contents can be generated
in Word from the heading styles. It also provides a quick way
to jump to different locations in long documents.
